Investment opportunities in the Southeast attracts VCs to February conference.

By Amy Biemiller

Brisk competition to present at this year’s Southeast Venture Conference (SEVC 2010) meant the conference planners had a tough decision to make: limit presentation opportunities or tightly schedule the conference to allow for more presenters.

“We chose to increase the number of presenting companies from 40 to 60 this year,” says Eric Gregg, conference director and publisher of TechJournal South. “The conference is jam packed from start to finish.”

Running February 24 and 25 in Tyson’s Corner, VA, the fourth annual conference is attracting hundreds of private equity professionals and venture capitalists who are interested in the most promising emerging technology in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. “It’s the only conference that highlights investment opportunities from around the Southeast region in a variety of industries,” says Gregg.

The Southeast is an attractive region for investors for a variety of reasons, explains Gregg. “The Southeast region represents the world’s fifth -largest economy and boasts a strong diversity of technology innovation,” says Gregg. “With world-renowned research universities, a supportive business climate and affordable and accessible entrepreneurial talent, the Southeast consistently turns out technology success stories and has offered investors some of the best venture investment returns in the nation.” The conference highlights both early stage and later stage investment opportunities from: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington DC.

The three previous conferences featured over $80 billion in private equity investment capital in attendance. “There have been quite a number of direct investments that came about as a result of the SEVC,” says Gregg. “Beyond helping to facilitate direct investments, the goal of the conference is to create long term relationships among the attendees that will pay long term dividends for years to come.”

Along with presentations, the conference will feature networking opportunities and speakers that are experts in the technology investment arena. Current keynotes for SEVC 2010 include Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia; Mark Heesen, President of the National Venture Capital Association; and technologist Vint Cerf, currently the Chief Internet Evangelist at Google and often referred to as “Father of the Internet.”
All previous conferences have sold out, so registration is imperative. Go online for more information.
