Citing connectivity and flexibility as key for the government to more effectively invest in research and infrastructure support, the Association of University Research Parks (AURP) has released an update to their previous report on the importance of geography and connected communities for innovation. "The Power of Place 2.0: The Power of Innovation—10 Steps for Creating Jobs, Improving Technology Commercialization, and Building Communities of Innovation" outlines the role the federal government can take using research parks and other innovation assets for creating jobs and remaining a front-runner in the global technology competition.
“In 'The Power of Innovation,' we offer ten steps, from policy changes to selected investments, that Congress and the President can take quickly to leverage existing federal assets to create jobs, technology companies and communities of innovation, without creating new bureaucracies,” said Brian Darmody, AURP President.
With billions in annual federal investment into research and development at universities and federal labs and economic development programs, fast and efficient program implementation can enhance the economy and technological innovation. “We need better alignment among research universities, university research parks, technology incubators, sponsored program offices, and technology-transfer officials to meet better our nation’s global technology competition,” said Darmody.
The Association of University Research Parks is a professional association of university-related research and science parks.  Northeast Indiana Innovation Center has kicked off ‘Launch Pad,’ a new investment initiative for promising tech startups. The aim of the investment program is to attract and increase the number of knowledge workers in Northeast Indiana by investing prior to and for production development, in return for equity.
NASVF member The Innovation Center is Northeast Indiana’s only ISO9001:2000 business and technology incubator, serving entrepreneurs, business owners, and existing businesses who want to launch (or expand, or re-invent) a company based on innovative technology, product, or process in a high growth industry/sector. The center partners with Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne and other colleges to attract high-tech companies to Fort Wayne. It features a business incubator called the Emerging Growth Center.
The Innovation Center is the region’s “one-stop shop” for all entrepreneurial services - e.g., business development, access to capital, product innovation and commercialization services, marketing, research, training, mentoring, and coaching - and it is committed to growing, building, or developing innovative businesses in Northeast Indiana.
